CLINTON — William J. Pokorny Sr., 97, of the Alverno Nursing Home in Clinton, IA, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at the nursing home.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the South Chapel of Lemke Funeral Homes, Clinton, IA. Father Thomas Hennen will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the South Chapel of Lemke Funeral Homes, Clinton, IA. Graveside committal service will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton, IA.Memorials may be given to Mass Offerings.He was born May 26, 1911, in Ulysses, NE, to Anton and Antonia (Divis) Pokorny.He graduated from Waverly High School in 1930 in Waverly, NE.He married Barbara A. Coufal on June 16, 1932, in Lincoln, NE. She died July 31, 2000.He was a farmer in western Iowa and in rural Clinton County area since 1954.He was a member of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bryant, IA. He was also a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau, the Knights of Columbus, and was a 4-H leader.Survivors include four daughters, Teresa Beck, Onawa, IA, Ardean (William D.) Carlson, Clinton, IA, Marcia (Roger) Franks, Clinton, IA, Siena (David) Witt, Port Charlotte, FL; one son, William J. (Julie) Pokorny Jr., Bryant, IA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Pokorny of Fall City, NE.He was preceded in death by five sisters, Verna Fujan, Mary Stanislas, Antonia Ratkovec, Helen Maly and Blanche Pokorny; five brothers, James, Anthony, George, Andrew and Albert Pokorny.Casketbearers will be Greg, Richard and Patrick Beck, John and Daniel Carlson, Robert and Matthew Franks.Honorary casket bearers will be Diane Beck, Barbara Hartman, Susan Erickson, Nancy Witt, Debra Gray, Sarah Montori, Shayla Corbisier, Jessica Pokorny, Jami Lange, Eddie Kaszinski, Larry and Jerry Rickertsen.To send online condolences go to: www.lemkefh.com.Death date: Nov. 30, 2008
