Henry Carl Baars, the son of Henry Baars and his wife Augusta nee Adam, was born August 29, 1888, in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died at his home in Communia, Iowa, April 11, 1955, at the age of sixty-six years, seven months and twelve days.
Mr. Baars spent his entire life in Clayton county. For the past twenty-nine years he was operator and owner of the store at Communia, Iowa.
On Dec. 15, 1915, in the home of the bride, he was united in marriage to Katherine W. Kuehl. Two children were born to this union: Mrs. Vernon (Ruth) Clinton of Littleport, and Delbert C. Baars at home.
Mr. Baars had been in failing health for the past twenty years. His death came suddenly early Monday morning, April 11.
Henry served his community as school director and township trustee. He was baptized by the late Rev. Seifert and confirmed in the year 1912, and was a member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, daughter Ruth, his son Delbert and six grandchildren. Also two brothers, Herman Baars of Volga, Fritz of Osborne, and a sister Carrie, Mrs. Arno Gottschalk of Elkader.
Services were held Thursday afternoon, April 14, at one o'clock from the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader; with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery at Volga City.
