Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Monona for J. R. Moses, 69, who died Friday evening, March 18, at his Monona home following several months' illness. Services were conducted from the Schultz funeral home to the Monona Methodist church at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the Monona cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at graveside.
Moses was a former member of the Clayton county board of supervisors and at the time of his death was a member of the Clayton county board of review. He was a member of the Monona school board for 12 years, seven as its president, and also served as a member of the county board of education for 12 years.
He was a past master of the Monona Masonic lodge and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Methodist church. He served two terms as a county supervisor, from 1937 through 1942, and had served eight years on the board of review.
Moses was born in Allamakee county on December 12, 1885, a son of Simon and Katherine Ambroze Moses. Educated in the country schools, he took up farming and on May 08, 1919, he was united in marriage to Cora Kishman. In 1926 the couple moved to Monona where they have since made their home.
Surviving besides his widow, are two children, Jason of LaMesa, Calif., and Mrs. Lorraine Hopkins of Camp Hill, Pa.
In addition he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Bert Ferguson of McGregor, Mrs. Joseph Tayek of Monona, and Mrs. Elizabeth McClure of Malcom, Iowa. There is one surviving brother, Joseph, of Norfolk, Nebr., and five grandchildren.
