W.C. Huey, a citizen of McGregor a dozen years ago, and in the agricultural trade with J.C. Glass, died at his residence in Winona, Minn., on Thursday last.
Mr. Huey was one of the kindest hearted men which it was ever our good fortune to take by the hand.
A very large concourse of friends followed the remains to the last resting place on Sunday last.
DIED - At Winona, Minn., on the 12th inst., W.C. Huey. Age 51 years. Mr. Huey was born in Washington, Pa., where in early life he engaged in trade, and continued until 1857. Married Miss Carroll, of Sinclairsville, O., then removed to Springfield, Ill., and there lived four years, near neighbor to the late President Lincoln.
Choosing a home further north he located at McGregor in 1861 and remained until the spring of 1863 when he moved to Winona, Minn., where he established one of the most successful agricultural warehouses in the state. He was well known and respected throughout Minnesota and northern Iowa.
Winona has lost a good citizen; a wife and child (a daughter of seven years), are left to mourn. Their many friends in McGregor heartily sympathize with them in this bereavement. -- M.
