Funeral services for Fred J. Liddy, __, of Littleport were held at the Witt funeral chapel in Elkader at _____ o'clock Friday afternoon, March __, 1953. The Rev. F. W. Tillmanns officiated. Burial was in the Union cemetery at Littleport.
Mr. Liddy died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Kleih, in Strawberry Point, on Tuesday, March 17, 1953. He had been ill for the past three months. Death was due to a stroke.
Fred J. Liddy was born at Littleport, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1882, the son of John and Minnie Liddy. He received his education in the grade school at Littleport.
On September 19, 1901, at Dubuque, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Louise Pust. They lived in Littleport all their lives with the exception of a few years at Stanford, South Dakota, and Dubuque, Iowa.
He operated a store in Littleport for many years, he was also a salesman and later operated a tavern in Littleport. Mr. Liddy served on the town council and the school board of that town. Mr. Liddy was a member of the Lutheran church and of the Royal Neighbors lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Harold H. and Donald F. Liddy, both of Littleport; two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Kleih, Strawberry Point, and Mrs. A. L. Shaw, Dubuque; four sisters, Miss Mildred Liddy, Mrs. A. V. Richardson, both of Chicago; Mrs. Charlotte Ortman, Littleport; Mrs. Clem Gleason, New Hampton. Also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His wife preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were: George Chettinger, Ransom Ruegnitz, Howard Stewart, Delbert Hillery, Raymond Huges, Richard Clinton.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Greenwalt, Zion, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. John Liddy, Monticello, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Richardson, Miss Mildred Liddy, all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Gleason, New Hampton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Baum, Manchester, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Ortman and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wick, all of Guttenburg; Mrs. Margaret Killen, Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Ben Geselbr_cht and Douglas of Galena, Illinois.
