Funeral services for Louis J, Engler, 93, were held at Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 12. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Burial was in the Guttenberg City cemetery.

Mr. Engler died at the home of his son, John Engler in Read township, Monday March 09, 1953. He had been in ill health for the past five months.

Louis J. Engler was born August 17, 1859, in Garnavillo, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Engler, Clayton county pioneers. He received his education in the rural school near his home and the Monona school. On November 25, 1897, at West Union, Iowa, he was married to Caroline Stamph. The couple farmed near Clayton and Garnavillo for many years. They retired in 1930 and Mrs. Engler died in 1940. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons, namely: Mrs. Ralph (Violet) Harris, Dubuque; Mrs. Arthur (Irene) Radatz, Garnavillo; Mrs. Anton (Katherine) Troester, Clayton; John and Fred Engler, both of Garnavillo; two brothers, William R. Engler and Albert Engler, both of Dubuque, also eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Emily, who died as a child.

Pallbearers were: Edwin Kalke, S. H. Powell, Arno Huebner, Robert Niehaus, Waldo Taake, Vincent Kraus.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Albert Engler, Dubuque; John Wander, Ossian; Mrs. Hugh Randall and Mrs. David Brause, West Union; Mrs. Helen Dibble, Clermont; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wander and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wander, Elgin; and Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Schweinefus, Castalia.
