DIED - Near McGregor, on Friday, Oct. 24th, 1862, James Macintosh, late of Davenport, aged about 55 years.
The deceased was a native of Perth, Scotland, and was a lineal descendant of the chiefs of this important clan whose name he bore. He emigrated early to America, traveled extensively, in younger life, through the southern and western States, and finally settled at Davenport, where he became one of the leading business men and politicians of the place.
The reverses of '57, in their wide spread ruin, caught him in their tolls, and from affluence he was reduced to a fortune by no means liberal. Domestic troubles, whose origin the world has no right to inquire into, added to the poignancy of his disappointments, and he left the place of his mature manhood to seek a spot and associations which should not be a continual reminder of his [illegible] politics.
He purchased a farm near McGregor and was a daily visitant to our city. Of fine education, extraordinary historical knowledge and captivating social qualities, he was always welcomed in circles where intelligence ruled the hour. On Wednesday, he was in town, in the enjoyment of usual good health -- on Friday, it was told us "Macintosh is dead!"
W.H. Harding, Esq., of the American House, accompanied the body of the deceased, on Sunday, per steamer 'Pembina', to Davenport for interment.
