Lieut. John Schroeder, of Co. C, 3d Iowa regiment, died at the residence of his father near Guttenburg, on the 19th inst., of consumption - his death being precipitated by the exposures of camp life.
He had military experience in Europe, and was one of the first to enlist when the rebellion broke out. He was highly esteemed and dearly beloved by all the boys in his company.

Note: 1860 US census, Jefferson twp., Clayton co. = age 26, teacher, born Luxemberg. Burial is in the Guttenburg City cemetery
