Wilbur Phelps, a resident of this vicinity his entire lifetime, passed away at the family home Dec. 20th, 1929, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 5 days. He had been in declining health for a long time and had been seriously ill for several weeks.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Phelps, pioneer residents here, and was born May 15, 1857. He was united in marriage with Miss Stella Fishel on Mar. 4, 1889 and was engaged in farming for a number of years, moving to town when retiring from active life.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for forty-six years and of the Rebekah lodge for thirty-one years.

Two sons aged one and three years respectively, preceded him in death. Surviving are the widow and twelve children - Lincoln Phelps of Puyallup, Wash., Mrs. Mary Cole of Laporte City, Mrs. Odessa Ahrends of Dundee, Mesdames Sylvia Jaster and Stella Knospe and Levi Phelps of Elkport, Martin Phelps of Prairie View, Ill., Mrs. Opal Lau of Delhi, Lucile Meyers of Guttenberg, Merten, Otto and Wilbur Phelps of Colesburg; also a number of grandchildren and other relatives.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor Rev. G.C. Note. The selections - 'Does Jesus Care', 'The Silver Chord', and 'God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again' were sung by Cora Wessel and Beulah Wilson, with Edith Merten at the piano. Brother Odd-Fellows acted as casket bearers and conducted the committal service at Oak Hill cemetery.

Sympathy is extended Mrs. Phelps and children.

-His parents were Alpheus Phelps and Barbara (Nicholson) Cole Phelps, whose homestead was located in Mallory twp., Clayton co. Wilbur grew up there.
