Funeral services for Chas. E. Phelps, 75, were held last week Monday afternoon, from the home, in charge of Rev. F.R. Maynard. Hymns were sung by Mrs. D.E. Wessel and Mrs. C.E. Shaffer. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery. He died Nov. 25 following a long decline in health and brief critical illness.
The son of Alpheus and Barbara Phelps, he was born at the homestead here March 15, 1864, the youngest of nine children, and was the last of the family group. His parents, three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
In August, 1896, he was married to Mrs. Emily Ann Shaw McKinney and the home was made here for 33 years. Survivors are the widow, three sons and three daughters; Clifford, Isa, Gilbert, Margaret, Oda and Iola; six grandchildren, and other relatives.
