The death of C. M. Klingman occurred Sunday morning, August 25, 1957, at the McGregor hospital, where he had been a patient since the previous Wednesday. He had been in failing health for a long time.
As Charles Martin Klingman, he was the son of Martin and Laura Johnson Klingman, born March 13, 1877, in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa. He attended the rural school in that township and grew to manhood in that community.
On April 16, 1898, he was married to Louise Wegmiller, and they were the parents of five children, Ray and Lee of Volga; Mrs. Glen (Hilda) Little, Elgin; Mrs. Lucian (Cecile) Donlon, Elkader, and Fred of Arlington.
The family circle was broken with the death of Mrs. Klingman on July 05, 1922.
In June, 1929, Mr. Klingman was united in marriage to Caroline Helgeson and after twelve years of companionship, she died in 1941.
During most of his adult life, Mr. Klingman farmed and in 1940, moved to Volga and worked as a carpenter.
His last days before entering the McGregor hospital were spent in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Klingman.
His five children survive, in addition to 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Alice) Yearous, Elgin; Mrs. Albert (Nora) Ripke, Grandview, Wash.; two brothers, William and Albert Klingman, Elgin, and other relatives.
Services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., at te Illyria church with the Rev. D. Casper, pastor, officiating. Music was provided by Harold Strong, pianist, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Shaffer, vocalists.
Six grandsons, Loy Klingman, Roger Klingman, Lee Roy Klingman, Gary Klingman, Joe Donlon and Donald Little served as casket bearers. Burial was in the family lot in the adjoining cemetery.
