Funeral services for Carl W. Banks, 82, will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the Witt Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. Paul Kitterer will officiate.

Banks died Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Elkader.

He was born in Germany on September 14, 1874. After coming to this country he made his home in Chicago, where he was night watchman for the Kane Service company.

In later years he made his home in St. Olaf, McGregor and Elkader.

Surviving are his wife, Edith of McGregor; two sons, Rudolph of McGregor and Carl Jr. of Chicago; and two daughters, Mrs. John Fritz of Froelich and Mrs. Ella Goltz of Marquette.

Carl Wilhelm Bank Sr. the son of Carl Bank and his wife Edith Umland was born September 14, 1874, in Schleswig Holstein, Germany and died at Elkader, Iowa, in the County Mental hospital on August 27, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 13 days.

The deceased was united in marriage to Caroline Missun on September 11, 1897, in Germany. Five sons and three daughters were born to them. Two sons and two daughters preceded their father in death. The surviving children are: Carl Bank Jr., Chicago; Rudolph F. Bank, McGregor; Mrs. Ella Goltz, Marquette; and Mrs. John Fritz, Froelich. Mr. Bank came to America with his family in the year 1921.

Mr. Bank spent most of his life in Clayton count farming with the exception of four years when he was employed as a watchman for a Chicago firm. Since 1940 he has been living in McGregor near his son Rudolph.

About four years ago Mr. Bank became mentally ill and was taken to the institution in Elkader. Four months ago he suffered a stroke.

Mr. Bank is survived by his wife, the afore-named children and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 30 at 2 p.m. at the Witt chapel with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.
