Orin A. Phillips was born in Crawford county, Penn., on March 23, 1838, and departed this life at Greeley, Iowa, on August 24, 1921, being 83 years, 5 months and one day of age.

On August 26, 1862 just 59 years ago to this day of his burial, he first enlisted as a soldier in the United States army, from which he was last honorably discharged on March 15, 1866 having served his county nearly four years, a member of Co. K, First Iowa Cavalry.

On February 20, 1870 he was united in marriage to Kezia Bissell, of Volga City and to this union were born four children, two of which have proceeded him, the first in infancy, and Earl, who died and was laid to rest in March 1915.

He is survived by the wife, two children, Minnie Culbertson of Greely, Ia., and Leon Phillips of Des Moines, Ia., one brother F.N. Phillips of Gridley, Kan., two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Goodwin and Mrs. Ella Finke both of Volga City, and five grand children. Also a large number of nieces and nephews, all who with a host of friends are left to mourn his loss.

The funeral was held from the Methodist church in Volga City conducted by Rev. J.M. Jennings. Interment in Hill Crest Cemetery. A large number of Masons from Greeley were present.

-Mr. and Mrs. Leon Phillips of Des Moines came Thursday called here by the death of his father.
-Word came Wednesday that Orin Phillips had passed away at the home of his daughter at Greeley. Mr. Philips formerly lived at Volga. The family have the sympathy of the entire community.
