Otto Julius Gusta was born Nov. 12, 1877, in Cox Creek township, Clayton County, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Gusta, and died April 15, 1937, at the McGregor hospital. Mr. Gusta had been in poor health for several years.
On January 15, 1901, Mr. Gusta was united in marriage to Antonetta Muench at Dubuque. They made their home on a farm in Clayton county, and later moved to Nebraska, North Dakota, La Crosse, Wis., and Guttenberg. They moved to Elkader in 1928, where they since have resided. Mr. Gusta was engaged in the trucking business for several years after moving to Elkader.
In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Gusta observed their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. Gusta was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Hugo, a daughter, Mrs. George (Dina) Meenan, on Jan. 12, 1957, and a granddaughter, Bernice Meenan.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Realto, Davenport; Elmer, Strawberry Point; Alfred, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Leona) Gottschalk, Elkader; Mrs. Reuben (Evelyn) Glawe, St. Olaf; three sisters, Emma Homan, Waukon; Mrs. Chris (Lena) Meyer, Elkader; Amelia Gusta and Ernest Gusta, Arlington.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18, 1957, at the Witte funeral home with Rev. George M. Richter officiating.
Pallbearers were: Albert Geno, Henry Possehl, Emmet Liddy, A. A. Schultz, Mike Garaghty and Ed Leonard.
