Clayton County Register, 09 July 1941.

John L. Hagensick died at his home here at 6:30 a.m., June 30, following an attack of apoplexy. Prior to this attack he had been in his usual good health.

John Louis Hagensick was born at Ceres, Iowa, Garnavillo township on December 30, 1874, and so at the time of his death had reached the age of 66 years and six months.

All his life he lived in this county - in the township of his birth - then on a farm in Read township and finally here in Elkader. The major part of his life he spent on the Read township farm, six miles east of Elkader, until 1936 when the family removed to Elkader.

March 27, 1901, he was united in marriage with Freda Anna Diers, in Read township, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born. The daughter, Ada Margreth Wickersheim, preceded her father in death as did also one daughter-in-law - Mrs. Milton Hagensick.

Those surviving him include, Amos Fredrick, Milton Henry and Lloyd Arron, the three sons, all of Elkader; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Amos Hagensick; one son-in-law, A. S. Wickersheim, McGregor; one grandson, Carl Agustus Hagensick, son of Milton Hagensick; two brothers, A. _. Hagensick, New York City; Chris Hagensick, Lincoln, Nebr., and two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Schroeder, Elkader, and Mrs. Bertha Gray, Monona. Martin Roeben, Belt, Mont., who was reared by the Hagensick family between the ages of six and sixteen, also mourns the death of Mr. Hagensick, as do a host of relatives and friends.

Although Mr. Hagensick was a farmer, he was also a builder in the sense that he found enjoyment in improving his homes and their premises. The farm in Read township was one of the best improved in that township and all the improvements there are the results of his efforts.

The new and modern home in Elkader resulted from his foresight and the landscaping there has attracted attention from all who have seen it.

His home was his kingdom and his greatest joy was the time spent with his family.

A Bible Student, funeral services were held for the deceased Thursday afternoon at the Witt funeral chapel here in Elkader and burial was made in Clayton Center with Mr. Leon H. Norby of Minneapolis, Minn., officiating.

Casket_bearers were: E. W. Carlsen, Everett Hagensick, Willis Diers, Vernon Diers, LeRoy Schroeder and Arno Koss.
