Clayton County Register, 09 July 1941.

One fatality resulted from the July Fourth weekend in this county. This fatality, however, was not the result of a traffic accident but due to drowning.

The annual Fourth of July reunion of the Mitzner families ended in tragedy in Guttenberg, Friday afternoon when Robert Mitzner, 13, of Tipton, drowned in Pussy Lake, just on the north outskirts of Guttenberg.

Robert, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mitzner, was wading with two older brothers, Richard, 16, and Raymond, 14, when suddenly he stepped off into a deep hole. The body was not recovered until 45 minutes later.

The body was removed to Tipton for burial.
