Note: not true obituaries, I've extracted portions of letters written by Capt.. Thomas G. Drips, Co. E. 27th IA, another from Co. E., and Resolutions from his I.O.G.T. Lodge.

-Excerpt from a letter published in Army Correspondence columns, Weekly North Iowa Times, 4/15/1863: "Co. E is doing pretty well at this time. Most of those sice are getting well. I think there are but two who are very sick, and I expect to have them discharged soon; they are Charles H. Reed and John W. Lee." - Thos. G. Drips (4/2/1863)

-Excerpts from letters published in Army Correspondence columns, Weekly North Iowa Times, 5/13/1863: "Since my last, death has again visited our camp, and taken from amongst us two of our brave hearts, by disease, Charles H. Read and Leroy K. King. They were both faithful, good men, and highly esteemed by every member of the company. We all mourn their loss and deeply sympathize with their dear friends and relatives." - Thos. G. Drips (4/23/1863)

"The health of our regiment is tolerably good, but since my last letter we have lain two from Co. E, in their last narrow bed, viz: Charles H. Reed and Levi R. King. Their losses will not alone be felt deeply at home, we miss them here in the camp and on the march, there is something in a soldiers life which knits men together and makes them feel the loss of a comrade deeply." -written by "You Know Who" (4/29/1863)

-Resolutions passed by National Lodge No. 9, I.O.G.T.
... on the death of Brother Chas. H. Reed, a member of Capt. Drips' Co., 27th Reg. Iowa Vol. Inf't., who died at Jackson, Tenn., April 11th, 1863, aged 17 years and 5 months.
... the Lodge has lost an esteemed member, his parents an only and endeared son, and his country a youthful patriot and soldier.
~North Iowa Times, Wednesday, May 20, 1863, pg 1

Notes:
-Buried Corinth Nat'l Cemetery, Corinth, MS; he has a memorial inscription on his parent's, William & Pamelia (Watkins) Reed, gravestone in the Giard cemetery.
