Funeral services for Katie Direen, 83, were held Monday at nine o'clock at Sacred Heart church, with the Rev. D. T. Noonan, pastor, celehrating the Requiem high mass.
Miss Direen died at her home here Friday night, Dec. 27, after several years' lingering illness.
She was born in June, 1857 and has lived practically all her life in and near this community.
She was an honest, sincere, Christian woman and a member of the Sacred Heart catholic church, which she attended regularly, until illness prevented her from doing so.
A brother, Lawrence Direen at home, survives, also several nieces and nephews. Her casket bearers were: M. J. Conboy, R. D. White, W. L. Krieg, Edward Smith, Jim Little and Jim Bergan.
Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery, Volga.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kelleher, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kelleher, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Feeney, Jim and Anna Kelleher, all of Elkader; P. H. Quinn and J. J. Conboy, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. August Druecker, Arlington; Mrs. Frank Kelleher and two daughters, and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Hyde, Elkader.
