Funeral services for Mrs. James Dinan, 83, were held from the family residence in Elkader to St. Joseph church at 9 o'clock Monday morning, Oct. 25. The Rev. B. H. Skahill officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.

Mrs. Dinan died at her home Thursday evening, Oct. 21, 1948, of a kidney infection. She had been in failing health for the past year and had been confined to her bed for ten days preceding her death.

Sarah Leonard was born on a farm near Elkader, Dec. 08, 1864, the daughter of Michael and Kathryn Leonard. When a young girl she moved with her parents to Elkader which had since been her home.

She received her education in St. Joseph's school. For many years she operated a dress making shop and taught sewing to a group of girls.

In 1907 at St. Joseph church she was united in marriage to James W. Dinan who survives her.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church and of the Ladies' Guild of that church, also a member of Catholic Forresters.

Surviving besides her husband is a son Gerald and daughter Kathleen, all of Elkader, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Whittle of Clark, S.Dak.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen, who died at the age of four years.

Casket bearers were: James Leonard, Jack Leonard, Stephen Leonard, Joseph Rothmeyer, Chas. Rothmeyer and John Rothmeyer.

People from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. James McTaggart, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Quinn of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Agnes Meyer, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dinan, West Union; Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Dinan, Littleport; Mary and Helen Rothmeyer, Davenport; Mrs. Thomas Hunt, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Leonard, Davenport.
