George William Kishman was born in Monona township south of Luana on August 12, 1881, the son of Henry and Harriet Sheppard Kishman. He received his early education in the rural schools near his home and later attended the Breckenridge Normal school at Decorah for several terms.
On April 9th, 1912, he was united in marriage to Christine Borcherding at St. John's Lutheran church in Guttenberg by the Rev. J. Janzig. In August of the same year he purchased a farm northwest of Farmersburg, which remained his home until his death.
During his life he served his community in various civic capacities. He served as church treasurer for three years.
He is survived by his wife and four children; namely, (Irene) Mrs. Earle Corlett, Castalia; (Shiley) Mrs. Parmer Schlake, Garnavillo; Landry, at home, and Eunice of Roseburg, Oregon, the latter having arrived at his beside but a few days before his death. Four grandchildren also survive: Carmen and Wayne Corlett, Marilyn and Robert Schlake. Other survivors the three brothers, Alfred and Howard of Monona, and Werner of Luana, two sisters, Carrie Kishman and (Cora) Mrs. J. R. Moses of Monona.
His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held April 01, from St. John's Lutheran church at Farmersburg.
Pallbearers were: Ira Moon, Hale Corlett, Farley Henkes, Oscar Henkes, Ed Kurth, Roy Saacke, Gus Lenth and Herb Brownson.
