Funeral services for George Burghardt, life long resident of Clayton county, were held from the Dickman funeral home in Garnavillo at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 07. Burial was in the Garnavillo cemetery.
George Henry Burghardt was born in Clayton county January 09, 1864 and died at home in Clayton township April 03, 1948. He had attained the age of 84 years, 2 months and 24 days. He had spent his entire life as a farmer.
He was married on December 02, 1885 to Miriam Bond. To this union eleven children were born. They are: Alfred Burghardt, Sumner; Mrs. Fannie Sitterly, Mrs. Carrie Wille, Mrs. Sarah Florey, and Mrs. Louise Marock, all of Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Florence Beckett, Des Moines; Mrs. Ada Friedlein, McGregor; Marion and Marie at home. Two sons preceded their father in death, Walter at the age of 9 years and one in infancy. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hageman and Mrs. Julia Stricker, both of California, seventeen grandchildren and several nieces and neephews.
