Dr. E.C. Meggers, 63, died Friday at Palo Alto, Calif., where he and Mrs. Meggers have made their home for the past two years. He was formerly a physician and surgeon here and operated the McGregor hospital for about 25 years. He had been in failing health since before leaving McGregor.
Funeral services were held Monday in the mortuary at Palo Alto with the minister of the Congregational church officiating. Burial was Tuesday afternoon in Golden Gate National Cemetery with military grave side rites.
Dr. Meggers came to McGregor in 1924 and took over the Clark hospital which he and Mrs. Meggers operated until about four years ago when they sold it as a community hospital.
He was a graduate of the College of Medicine of the University of Illinois and was a surgeon in the Marines for five years during the following World War I.
He was located at Prairie du Chien and Elkader for a short time before coming to McGregor.
Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. J.D. Larche of Aurora, Colorado, and Mrs. J.V. Hogan of Salt Lake City, Utah, and three grandchildren.
