Charley Wilas Wilson, son of Harvey and Mary Knudtson Wilson, was born near Gunder, June 17, 1888 and died Aug. 23, 1946 at the home of John Anderson at Elgin at the age of 58 years, two months and six days.

He was born in Marion township and at the age of 18 years moved to Wagner township, Clayton county, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was baptized by the Rev. O. Waldeland and confirmed by the Rev. Jacob Tanner Oct. 04, 1903 at the Marion Lutheran church at Gunder where he was a member until his death.

Charley was a World War I Veteran and was inducted into the Army July 25, 1918. Six weeks were spent in the states and Sept. 14, 1918 he was sent overseas where he served seven months in France and Belgium, returning to the states April 15, 1919. He was with the 346th Machine Gun Battalion overseas.

He began to fail in health about four months at the emfwy emfyw about a year ago and was bedfast about four months at the home of his half-brother, Melvin who, with the help of another half-brother Edwin, cared for him until four days before his death when he was moved to the home of John Anderson where Mrs. Anderson took care of him.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, also one brother who died at the age of nine months and one half-brother who died at the age of three months.

He is survived by one sister Mrs. Gilbert Nelson of Osage; one brother, Henry Wilson of Rushford, Minn.; two half-sisters: Mrs. Selma Sonstegard and Mrs. Matilda Christianson, Elkader; three half-brothers: Melvin and Edwin Halverson, Elkader and Ray Halverson, Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.

Military funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at Witts chapel at Elkader and 2:00 o'clock at Marion Lutheran church at Gunder with Dr. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Songs were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Rierson accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Kirkeberg.

Casket bearers were World War I veterans: Will Bergan, Ray Rierson, Ralph Gunderson, Clarence Torkelson, Carl Torkelson and Mellien Loftsgard.

Burial was made in the Marion cemetery at Gunder.
