Drowns, Theodore J. 'Ted' 1913-1945

Memorial services are being held this morning at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, for Theodore Drowns who was killed on Okinawa on April 29th. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Drowns of Marquette received word on May 23rd, from the War Department informing them of his death.

Marquette and McGregor businesses places will be closed from 10 to 11 o'clock, during the services.

Theodore James Drowns was born at Madison, Wis., March 9th, 1913. He graduated from Marquette high school in 1932. He attended the University of Iowa and entered the service in his junior year, in February, 1942.

He is survived by his parents, one brother, Herbert, an aunt, Mrs. A.J. Denniwith, the former Nellie Drowns, of Rockford, and several aunts and cousins of Madison.

Ted Drowns Rites Held at Madison
The body of Corporal Theodore Drowns, age 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Drowns of Madison, Wis., who was killed in action on Okinawa, April 29, 1945, arrived in Madison on Monday for reburial. Services were held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the Joyce Funeral Home in Madison with Msgr .Wm. Mahoney officiating Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Madison.

Corporal Drowns was a member of the 7th infantry division when he was killed in the service at Okinawa. He entered the service in February, 1942 and had served in the Aleutians and Hawaii, later he saw action in the Philippines and Iwo Jima before going to Okinawa.

Formerly a resident of Marquette he graduated from high school at Marquette and attended the University of Iowa before entering the army.

Surviving besides his parents is a brother, Herbert Jr., of Madison.
