Funeral services for Michael H. McTaggart, 62, who died suddenly at Mercy hospital in Dubuque on Tuesday, Feb. 26, were held at St. joseph's church in Elkader at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 01. The Rev. John Peters of Waterloo officiated at the Requiem high mass assisted by the Rev. E. A. Fitzgerald of Elkader and Father Wm. Kunsch, Loras college, Dubuque. The Rev. E. A. Fitzgerald , pastor of St. Joseph's church Elkader, delivered the sermon. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery, Elkader. The Knights of Columbus marched in a body at the church.

Michael H. McTaggart was born in Cox Creek township Feb. 29, 1884. The son of Michael and Nellie McTaggart, he was one of a family of thirteen children. He received his education in the rural schools and the Strawberry Point high school.

On Dec. 29, 1911, at Dubuque, he was married to Miss Louise Brinkhous, of Mederville. The young couple began housekeeping in Mederville where they operated a general store until 1936 when they moved to Elkader where they have since conducted the McTaggart and Son's furniture store and funeral home.

Mr. McTaggart was a member of St. Joseph's church in Elkader and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his widow, three sons: Donald, Francis and William all of Elkader; and one daughter Luella of Chicago; also six brothers: Lewis of Elkader; Joseph and John of Strawberry Point, William of Milwaukee, Thomas of Walthill Neb., and Robert of Edgewood; and six sisters: Mrs. Anna Reimer and Mrs. Molly Funk, both of Edgewood, Mrs. Eunice Cassidy and Mrs. Mattie Morris of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Lucy Hafel, North Buena Vista, and Mrs. Kate Peter, Fairbank, and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Peter Dougherty, Werner Fassbinder, Edward Burlingame John Leonard, of Littleport; Norbert Neimeyer and Fred Seyberts.
