Funeral services for John W. Warnicke, were held from the Witt Funeral chapel at 12:45 o'clock Saturday Jan. 05, and at the Frieden's Evangelical church at 1:15 p.m. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
Mr. Warnicke, a life long resident of Clayton County, died at his home three miles south of Elkader, Thursday morning Jan. 03, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 21 days. He had been in failing health for the past year, but was able to be about his duties until about three weeks ago.
He was born on the Warnicke homestead in Cox Creek township near Littleport, Iowa, on Jan. 13, 1866, and with his two brothers, Henry and Frank engaged in farming until they retired and moved to the "Three Corners" in 1924, which has since been their home.
Mr. Warnicke was a member of the Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader.
Surviving are one brother, Henry, and a sister, Mrs. A. H. Krieg of near Communia, Iowa, also a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. George Roeder and a twin brother, Frank.
Casket bearers were: Harold Downey, John Dohrer, Wm. Kroll, Roy Cords, Donald Beckman and Carroll Ehrhardt.
