John Stahl, son of John and Mary Heiden Stahl was born at Cox Creek on March 29, 1872, and died Thursday, Dec. 27, 1945, at 10:50 p.m. at his home in Volga.

Although in failing health for a number of years, he was taken suddenly ill at his home Monday evening, and his condition gradually grew worse until Thursday evening when he died. At the time of his death, he had reached the age of 73 years, 8 months and 28 days.

He grew to manhood and farmed with his parents until the age of 21, when he decided to learn the watchmaking trade, which he learned at Elkader, and at Joy, In. In the year 1907, he came to Volga and established a jewelry store and watchmaking business.

On January 31, 1917, he was married to Miss Marie Jauert of Garber. The ceremony was performed at Elkader. They resided in Volga throughout their married life, and have conducted a successful jewelry store and confectionary business.

Mr. Stahl is survived by his wife of Volga; one brother, Fred Stahl of Elkader; three sisters: Mrs. Mary Goodin, Mrs. Minnie Lendman, and Mrs. Lena Behrens, all of Volga, besides a large number of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Charles, August, Henry, Otto, and George Stahl and one brother who died in infancy, also one sister, Anna.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Paul Kitterer, pastor of the Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader in charge of the service. Music was furnished by Mrs. R. W. Duff, pianist and Sidney Ainsworth, soloist. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.

Casket bearers were: H. O. Probert, Harry Boleyn, Ronald Moore, John Follon, John Duff and H. F. Baars.

Alderson, Leone and Shirley Alderson, Mrs. Ida Fliehler, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Fred Thein and family, Fred Horstman, Harold Horstman, Garber; Mrs. William Landt, Luana; Miss Elsie Possehl, Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bowers, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Cross, Arlington; Arnold Buckman, Arthur Buckman, Froelich; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Stahl, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Thein and Donna Mae, George Stahl, D. F. Willmes, C. A. Curler, Gus Dohrer, Mrs. W. W. Dohrer, Jennie Bachtell, George Behn, Mrs. Katie Wistrick, L. C. Direen, all of Elkader.
