Fred C. Schmidt.

Funeral services for Fred C. Schmidt were held at the Wm. Staack home at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Brief services were held from the Witt Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. on Monday and at Clayton Center at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery with the American Legion in charge of the service.

Mr. Schmidt died suddenly of a heart attack Friday, Nov. 03 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Art Ihde in Farmersburg township.

Fred Wilhelm Carl Schmidt was born in Farmersburg township March 15, 1904 the son of Charles and Louisa Mueller Schmidt. He was baptized in the Christian faith April 11, 1904. He received his education in the rural school in Farmersburg township and was confirmed April 01, 1917. He was a farmer by occupation and served in the 382nd U.S. Infantry for three months in 1942. He had been employed at McGregor, Waukon, and other places in Clayton county. He was a member of Zion's Lutheran church in Clayton Center.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Louisa Schmidt, and two sisters, Mrs. Art (Hilma) Ihde and Mrs. William (Esther) Staack, all of near St. Olaf.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1931, a sister, Eleanor, who died in infancy, also four nieces and one nephew.

Pallbearers were: Arno Funk, Harold Dahl, Erwin Fette, William Fascher, Arno Glawe, and Arthur Glawe.
