GARBER: Rosa Wettengel, daughter of Adolph Hornfischer and his wife, Katherine, nee Hager, was born in Schwarzenbach, Bavaria, Germany, October 19, 1877. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.
In 1897 she went to Australia to be married to the Rev. N. Wettengel who was engaged in mission work among the aborigines. To this union four children were born. In 1906 the family went to Germany, and two years later (in May) they came to the United States where the Rev. N. Wettengel served congregations at Lydia, Kan., Altenburg, Mo., and Crane Creek, Iowa.
July 13, 1923 death claimed her husband. Thereafter she made her home with her children.
She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. G. Weber at Elkport, May 24, after a lingering illness, and was buried beside her husband in the Crane Creek cemetery near Tripoli, Iowa. Her age was 72 years, 7 months and 5 days.
One daughter, Mrs. Fred C. Harmening, preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Hans Wettengel, Hudson, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. W. G. Weber, Elkport; and Mrs. Fred C. Tegtmeier, Waterloo; Thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
