Gottfried Gustav Herrmann, son of Gottfried F. Herrmann and Ma___ H_ll_n___g, was born Jan. 2_, 188_, at Mu__hau___, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Mu__haus__. He also graduated from grade school there.
On Oct. 2_, 1904, he was united in marriage to Anne M. Knapp_. Seven children were born to them: William, now at home; Dorothy (Mrs. Henry Furlong), Dubuque; and __na (Mrs. Alva Possehl, Rockford, Ill., all born in Germany. After the couple came to America in 19_2, the following were born, Arthur of Postville, Harley of Waverly, Lorimer (deceased March 10, 19__), and Raymond, at home.
The couple settled in Clayton county where they have farmed near St. Olaf, Farmersburg and Garnavillo with the exception of one year spent in Florida and Dubuque.
He was in exceptionally good health and was active in his work until Feb. 2_, 1950. At this time he was hospitalized for several weeks due to a heart attack. After returning home he seemed to be in good health until taken by a second attack which came suddenly on May 1_. He died at _ p.m. at the age of 69 years, _ months and 2_ days.
Surviving in addition to his wife and children are a brother, Henry of Miami, Fla., and six grandchildren.
