Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Dec. 05, at St. Joseph's church for Richard Leonard, who died at his home in Elkader Wednesday, Dec. 02, 1942.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiated at the reqiem mass. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Richard Leonard was a son of the late Michael and Katherine Leonard and was born on a farm near Mederville on Oct. 01, 1856. Dec. 18, 1884, at Littleport, he was married to Mary Ellen Dinan, who preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1939. To this union three children were born, John Leonard of Mederville, Dr. Joe Leonard of Chicago, Ill., and Sister Mary Leonarda, of Lawler. There are also eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two sisters also survive him, Mrs. Sadie Dinan of Elkader and Mrs. Alice Whittle of Nassua, Minn.
Mr. Leonard belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a faithful member of his church.
The pallbearers were Joe Hoover, Stephen Donlon, Harley Downey, Harold Downey, Edward Krauel, and Joe Dinan.
