Clayton County Register, 26 Nov. 1942.

Lars H. Larson, eldest son of Halvor and Anna (Anderson) Larson, was born May 20, 1868, on the farm in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa, now owned and operated by O. H. Larson, and died at the home of his son, Adolph H. Larson on Nov. 18, 1942, at the age of 74 years and six months.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran church in Wagner township, in this county, by the Rev. Ole Waldeland., Nov. 04, 1883.

On May 04, 1892, he was united in marriage with Julia Larson, daughter of Andrew and Josephine Larson. To them were born two sons, Adolf Henry and Louie John. The latter died in 1918, at the age of 21 years.

Immediately after their marriage, the young couple engaged in farming, moving onto the farm that for just 50 years had been his home. On Jan. 29, 1899, the young wife and mother died, leaving the husband and father with two small boys, one but an infant.

He continued to operate the farm until about 1920, when his son Adolf, took over active management and operation thereof. Since then he has made his home with his son and family.

For more than a year he mentioned occasionally that his health seemed to be failing, but it was not until Oct. 09, that it was considered serious. On that day he consulted his physician who found that his body was being ravaged by that malignant disease, cancer. From October 10, he was confined to his bed.

Last Wednesday, less than six weeks after the seriousness of his condition became known, a little before two in the afternoon, he died, quietly and peacefully as he had lived.

Surviving him are his son and daughter-in-law, and their six children; two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Howard of Churdan, Iowa, and Mrs. John Johnson (Isabelle), of Palo Alto, Calif., two half-brothers, Albert H. Larson, and Olovus H. Larson, both of whom reside on the farm where the deceased was born; six nephews, six nieces, fourteen grandnephews and grandnieces. One half-sister, Mrs. Chas. Palmer, died in 1905.

He was a charter member of the Highland Lutheran church.
