Michael Downey, prominent Elkader business man, died at Mercy hospital Dubuque, Monday at 11:30 p.m. following a short illness. The direct cause of his death was acute dilatation of the heart brought on by a streptococcus infection of his lung, the attending physician said.

Funeral services were held this morning at 9 o'clock at the home and at St. Joseph's church at 9:30 with Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating at the requiem mass. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mr. Downey was for many years in the implement business. He was a member of the Elkader Council Knights of Columbus and the Woodmen of the World.

Besides his wife, Marry Meder Downey, he is survived by six brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday at St. Joseph's church at 9:30 for Mike Downey who died at Mercy hospital, Dubuque, Monday, November 23, at 11 p.m.

The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiated at the requiem mass. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mike Downey, a son of the late William A. and Johannah Downey, was born in Volga township on September 02, 1900. After completing his education he helped with the work on the farm.

In May, 1926, he was united in marriage to Mae Meder. Their home was made in Elkader.

He became manager of the bulk station of the White Rose and later the Mid-Continent oil companies. Later he became associated with the John Deere company, first as a local salesman, then as a district representative and finally as a John Deere dealer. He was in this business at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Elkader council, of the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodman of America.

He leaves to morn his untimely death, his wife, six brothers, Joseph, George, Harley, John and Walter of this vicinity and James of San Diego, Calif., three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Dittmer, Mrs. Stella M. Dunn of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Anna Marie Klemme of Belmond, Ia., besides other relatives and numerous friends.

The pallbearers were Adolph Benson, Fred Seyberts, William Walch, Leroy Dittmer, W. W. Davidson and Roy Hyde.
