Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Aug. 10, at the Emanuel Lutheran church for Mrs. Eliza Waring, 84, who died Saturday morning, Aug. 08, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. E. Tickner, at Oelwein. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery the Rev. Lawrence A. Stumme officiating. Mrs. Eliza Waring was born Sept. 20, 1858, at Schenectady, N.Y., the oldest daughter of Otto and Katherine Frederick. In 1868 she came with her parents and brothers to Iowa. She was married to Louie Waring at the St. Sebald Lutheran church by the Rev. G. H. Fuehr, Sept. 27, 1877. The couple farmed in this community for several years and Mr. Waring died in the year 1908. Mrs. Waring continued to live on the farm for a few years and then moved to town, living in her home on East Mission street. She continued to live here until last December, when she was taken to Oelwein to live with her daughter, because of ill health.
Surviving are seven children; Lawrence and William of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. B. E. Tickner, Mrs. Emma Neiman, and Elizabeth of Oelwein; Mrs. Will Gladwin and Charles of Strawberry Point. There are also 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Three children, Herman, Mrs. Mary Anderson, and Mrs. Esther Ball preceded her in death. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Mary Milheim of Oelwein and Mrs. Lizzie Nodurft of Strawberry Point. Four brothers and one sister preceded her in death, Chris, Henry, John, Charles, and Mrs. Julia Manning.
