Clayton County Register, 15 July 1942.
Mrs. W. C. Monlux died Wednesday night at her home in Elkader following a period of ill health after a stroke some time ago. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Congregational Christian church, with the Rev. George M. Richter officiating. Burial was in the United Brethren cemetery in Wagner township.
Rose Schoch Monlux, the oldest of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Schoch, was born in Elkader on June 11, 1875. She received her education in the public schools here.
On January 09, 1901, she was united in marriage to William C. Monlux, and together they made their home on a farm in Wagner township. She was active in social and community services, and was the first county chairman of the Women's Home Work project and held that office for 12 years. She was also the first county chairman of girls' 4-H clubs and held that position for 10 years.
Mrs. Monlux was a charter member of the Fern Leaf Camp of Royal Neighbors, an active member of the Ladies' Guild of the Congregational Christian church, and a member of the Wagner township cemetery association. She was secretary of the latter group for 27 years.
Mrs. Monlux was a woman of wide interests. Her youthful outlook and enthusiasm persisted through all her limited activities to the very last. Indeed, the last evening before her death she had been down town greeting her many friends.
One son, Milton D. Monlux, was born to this union. He, with his family, lives on the Monlux farm. She is also survived by her husband, William C. Monlux, and by two sisters, Mrs. Otto Heise of Star City, Ind., and Miss Louise Schoch, Dubuque. Three brothers, Fred, Will and Carl Schoch, and two sisters, Mrs. George Lenth and Minnie Schoch, preceded her in death, as did also her mother and Father.
