A paper received by George McLanahan announces the death [of] Joseph H. Drips at his home near Shaffton, Iowa, March 10th at the age of 79 years and 5 days.
Deceased was a resident of this county for sixteen years and is survived by his wife, whose maiden name was Hannah J. Haskins [sic], of Garnavillo, and eight children, two having preceded him in death.
The funeral was held from the church near his home and the hymns were those that Mr. Drips loved and had selected. At the grave a detail of his comrades from De Witt gave the last Grand Army honors and he was laid to rest beside his two sons.

- Death certificate (familysearch.org) gives his parents as William Drips and Martha Clark- Joseph Henry Drips (3/28/1828 - 3/10/1907) is buried in the Shaffton cemetery, Camanche twp., Clinton co. IA with his wife Hannah J. nee Hawkins (1832-1910) & sons R. Noble (1853-1868) and James (1869-1875). See gravestone & photos on FindaGrave
- He enlisted in Co. L, 6th Iowa Cav., and was sent out on the western frontier where he remained for three years, being mustered out at Sioux City, Ia., Oct. 17, 1865. (Clinton Morning Age, Wed., May 14, 1902) He was a member of N.B. Howard Post 92, GAR, DeWitt, IA.
