Death of an Old Miner
Residents of this city and county dating back twenty five to fifty years ago will remember a miner named O. Woodall. His mining operations were confined to Galena, Durang, Buena Vista and other sections of the lead district.

He lived in Buena Vista twenty-seven years working as a miner. He expired on the 5th day of February in Louisburgh, Grant county, Wis., at the ripe age of 83 years, lacking ten days.

Deceased was a native of Virginia. One of his daughters lives in Cassville.

-1856 IA State Census, Jefferson twp., Dubuque co. IA: Obediah Woodall (45y), Mary (30), Elizabeth (9), Daniel (7), Nancy (4) & Mary (4). He was born VA, occupation: Miner
-1870 U.S. census: Obed Woodall (59y), enumerated in Clayton co., Buena Vista twp., with wife Mary (69) & daughters Elizabeth (21), Nancy (16) and Mary (14). His occupation: Mining for lead.
-Buried Buena Vista Twp. cemetery (aka North Buena Vista cemetery) where he has a gravestone
-Evidence of Civil War service in the 6th IA Calvary, record should be verified
