Clayton County Register, 07 Jan. 1942.

VOLGA: Lund James Tenney, son of Elisha and Marilla Lowe Tenney, was born near Wadena, Iowa, Nov. 30, 1874 and passed away at his home at Volga, Iowa, Jan. 02, 1942 at the age of 67 years, one month and two days.

When but a child his parents moved to Volga and his entire life was spent in or near that place.

In 1901 he purchased the Volga dray line and was city drayman until he sold out to start farming in 1908. Three years later he bought a farm two and one-half miles south of town. He operated the farm for about 25 years and then moved to a home he had bought in town.

He was much interested in athletic sports and when a young man was a member of the famous Volga baseball team.

For more than 20 years he served on the local creamery board as a director, secretary and president. He was also a member of the Volga commission company, township committeeman of the county conservation, township clerk, and at the time of his death was a member of the town council.

For the past several years he has been a member of the Masonic Lodge of Strawberry Point.

Nov. 11, 1902 he was married to Miss Libbie Chapman. To this union were born five children: Wilma, at home; Norma, now a teacher at Reinbeck, Iowa; Hugh, now operating the home farm, and two baby daughters who preceded him in death.

Besides his immediate family he leaves to mourn his passing one granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends.

While shredding corn in the fall of 1937 he accidentally caught his right hand in the shredder, crushing it so badly it was necessary to amputate it.

On Dec. 03, 1940 he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered. For 13 months he was a patient sufferer. All that medical skill and loving hands could do proved futile and he passed away quietly Friday evening.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 04, at 2 p.m. at the methodist church with the Rev. D. V. Butler, pastor, in charge.

Mrs. F. P. Gernand, pianist, accompanied Dr. Dutton of Strawberry Point who sang during the service.

Six Masonic friends of the deceased served as casket bearers. They were: James Brink, Allen Robinson, Lee and Roy Candee, Arthur and Floyd Dittmer.

We join in expressing heartfelt sympathy for the family.
