Clayton County Register, 07 Jan. 1942.

Funeral services for John R. Alderson were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Glenn S. Hartong, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

As a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Alderson, he was born at Dubuque, on May 07, 1859, and died at his home Monday afternoon about 3:30 p.m. from a heart attack. He had been feeling well as usual and was up to the Sam Adams sale, who reside in his house in the west part of town. Returning home he ate a hearty dinner and soon told his son Robert he was not feeling well. Medical aid was summoned but before the physician arrived he had died.

When seven months old he came with his parents to Cass township where he spent his entire life.

On Nov. 30, 1882, he was married to Miss Hannah Leete of Volga. Mr. Alderson purchased 640 acres of land northeast of town which he still owns. They resided on the farm until 1907 when they purchased a home in Strawberry Point.

Mr. Alderson was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 55 years and a member of the O.E.S. chapter. He was mayor of Strawberry Point for 12 ears and a director of the Union Bank & Trust Co. For a number of years he was president of the Farmers' Co-operative creamery here.

Mrs. Alderson died Dec. 15, 1938.

He is survived by the following children: Thomas who lives on part of the old home farm, Robert at home, Mrs. John (Nannie) Schultz of Txland, Wis., Walter of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Glen (Emma) Carroll of Kansas City, Mo.; also seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He has two brothers and one sister, Dr. James Alderson of Dubuque, Miles Alderson of Stanley, Wis., and Mrs. Nellie Anderson of Ramsey.
