Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Meckelberg, 79, who died at the County Home, on Saturday morning, April 21, following an illness due to the infirmities of old age and heart trouble were held from the Witt Funeral Chapel on Monday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. S. J. Strandjord of the Norway Lutheran church at St. Olaf officiating. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
Lena Kostner was born in the state of Wisconsin on December 07, 1865. She was married to John C. Meckelberg in that state and came to Elkader in 1897 when they moved to a small farm near St. Olaf. In the summer of 1941 she and her son Joseph decided to leave the farm and make their home at the County Home.
Surviving are four children: Lenora and Norman, at Independence; Ralph of Waterloo, Wis.; and Joseph at the County Home. Preceding her in death were her husband and a son John.
Pallbearers were: Chas. Gottschalk, W. W. Davidson, Henry Lenth, George Ehrhardt, Albert Meder and Henry Wolf.
