McSperrin, Isaac 1873 - 1944

Funeral services for Isaac McSperrin, 70, who died at his home here Friday evening Oct. 13, were held Monday afternoon from the Witt Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. Although Mr. McSperrin had been in ill health for some time his death was unexpected.

Isaac McSperrin, the son of William and Henrietta McSperrin was born at Elkport, Ia., Nov. 02, 1873. He received his Education in the Elkport Public School. His entire life was spent in Clayton County with the exception of two years in Wisconsin.

Jan. 04, 1898, at Elkport, Ia., he was married to Mary Waterman. They spent the first two years of their married life in Guttenberg. One son, Floyd, was born to this union. Oct. 05, 1903, they moved to Elkader which has since been their home, Mr. McSperrin having served as town Marshal here for the past 30 years.

Peceding him in death was his son, Floyd, who died Nov. 22, 1943, his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Ella White of Osterdock, Mrs. Bertha Schultz of Garber, Mrs. Effie Luthill of Lincoln, Neb., and one brother of Oelwein.

Pallbeares were Henry Benschneier, G. J. Graf, Ben Leonard, George Cassidy, Harman Fascher and E. C. Bandow.

Out-of-town people who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Grover McSperrin, Oelwein; Mrs. G. W. White, Mrs. Walter White, Mrs. Lester Noack and Delbert Borrett of Osterdock; Mrs. Henry Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schultz of Garber; Mrs. Manda McSperrin, Melvin McSperrin, Mrs. Minnie Tindell of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Waterman, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kruse, and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Schroeder of Guttenberg; Miss Bertha Waterman of Rock Island, Ill.
