The Mail-Press, Thursday, February 4, 1904
Announcement of the rather sudden death of Miss May Kelch [sic], aged twenty one (21) at the home of her uncle Thomas Kelsh, Lamont, Iowa, caused the greatest surprise and deepest sorrow, to the whole community. She was ill only a few days of liver trouble being attended by Dr. Brady. On Wednesday, January 27th Dr. H.H. Bradley, of Manchester was summoned in consultation; but to no avail. Death freed her pure soul early, Thursday morning, Jan. 28th, 1904.
Solemn funeral services were held at the Catholic church, Sunday, the 31st with interment at the Strawberry Point Catholic Cemetery, Rev. John O'Donnell, Hazleton, celebrated High Mass and preached an appropriate sermon.
The attendance of relatives and friends was very large; rare flowers and vines draped the modest white casket. The efficient Hazleton choir furnished music, Miss Meyers, Organist.
The pall bearers were D.J. Hanley, D.J. Kerns, C.L. Eaton, Professor Arildson, Vince Zamonek, and J. McHugh. Relatives who attended the funeral from a distance were Tom Kelsh, wife and Mary of Lamont; M.J. Kelsh, Fort Madison, Iowa; T.F. Kelsh, Chicago; John Liston, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. John Veach, Cerro Gordo Co. Iowa; Anna and Alice Kelsh, Oxford Junction.
Prayers at the grave were offered by Father O'Donnell assisted by Father Rowe.
