Funeral services for Arthur Leroy Eckheart were held at the Evangelical church here Wednesday afternoon, June 21 at 2 o'clock following a short service at the Eckheart home. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. R. E. Braulich of the American Lutheran church at Arlington officiated at the services. Pallbearers were W. W. Davidson, Orval Sullivan, Roy Hyde, Richard McWilliams, Dr. L. A. Meder, F. A. Hickman, Frank Leonard and A. A. Shultz.
Mr. Eckheart was born Aug. 01, 1891, on a farm near Arlington, the youngest of five children of Geo. and Catherine Eckheart. He came to Elkader when he was a young man and was employed in the hardware store, later accepting a position in Kramer's meat market. During the first World War he left this position to be inducted in the armed forces and served overseas for eight months.
Upon his return to America in 1919, Mr. Eckheart became connected with the Hotel Bayless until 1929 when he accepted a position in the A. A. Shultz meat market. Jan. 14, 1941, he took over the management of the Lenth Cold Storage locker plant which position he held at the time of his death.
March 18, 1926 he was married to Ruth Kottman of Volga City at the Evangelical church parsonage here. They established their home in Elkader and became the parents of three children, Richard, Robert and Mary Lucille.
Mr. Eckheart was a member of the American Legion post and the M.W.A.
Mr. Eckheart became quite ill in May and during the past month he was able to work only occasionally. He died suddenly while at work at the locker plant Monday morning, June 19.
Besides his wife and children he is survived by two brothers, Will Eckheart of Arlington and Frank Eckheart of Muskegon, Mich. His parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
