GARNAVILLO: Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia Kregel, 77, widow of the late Edward W. Kregel, former Clayton county Supervisor, were held here yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Kregel died at her home at 6:45 Sunday morning after a lingering illness.
Sophia Margaret Kregel was born in Garnavillo township, Dec. 21, 1866, a daughter of Fred and Mary Bruns. Sept. 01, 1887, she was married to Mr. Kregel and they made their home on a farm west of Garnavillo until 1917, when they moved to Garnavillo. Mr. and Mrs. Kregel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sept. 01, 1937.
Nov. 19, 1938, Mrs. Kregel suffered a stroke which left her an invalid for the rest of her life. Mr. Kregel died April 17, 1939.
Survivors include four children: Arthur J., Mrs. Laura Brandt, Mrs. Irene Wirkler, and Mrs. Edna Dickman; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters: Mrs. Emma Meyer of Postville, Mrs. Margaret Kaiser of Monona, Mrs. Rose Mohning of LeMars, Mrs. Theo. M. Grace of Rock Glenn, Sask., Canada, Mrs. Vina Tewes of Monona, and one brother, George Bruns of Monona. Her parents, husband, two grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
