Funeral services for Miss Alice L. Meyer, who died at the home of her brother, H. L. Meyer, Sunday, Feb. 13, after an illness of about a year, were held from the home at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and at the Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
Alice L. Meyer was born in Read township, Clayton county, Nov. 23, 1904, the daughter of George and Lena Lemka Meyer, who preceded her in death.
In 1909 she moved to Elkader with her family where Alice attended the Elkader public schools, graduating with the class of 1923. For several years she taught in the rural schools in the vicinity of Elkader. In 1937, she purchased an interest in the Fashon Shoppe in Elkader and continued in that work, in partnership first with Miss Mary Meyer, then with Mrs. Leroy Bandow and later with Mrs. Mike Miller, until about a year ago when ill health confined her to her home.
She was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader and for many years was active in church work as a Sunday school teacher, organist and member of the choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a guardian of the Camp Fire Girls for a number of years.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mabel Lau, of Strawberry Point; one brother, Harry L. Meyer, of Elkader, and two nieces, Joann and Georgia Meyer of Elkader.
Pallbearers were: Arthur J. Meyer, Leroy Bandow, Lester Schulte, Joe Larson, Arthur Hochhaus, and L. J. Ehrhardt.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Bastian, of Cherokee, Iowa; F. H. Lindig, Mrs. George Schmid_ke and children Fredrick and Sarah Lee, all of Wheaton, Minn.
