Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 11, at St. Mary's Catholic church at McGregor for Daniel O'Rieley, 85, pioneer farmer of Clayton county, who died Sunday, Jan 09, at his home in McGregor after a weeks serious illness of influenza. Rev. J. J. Horsefield conducted the requiem mass and officiated at the grave.
Mr. O'Rieley was born in Illinois, moving to Clayton county in early childhood, where he was engaged in farming on the same farm for more than 60 years. Ten years ago he retired from active farming and moved to McGregor, where he has since resided.
He was married Dec. 24, 1887, to Ann Dermody of DeSoto, Wis., at the Church of St. Charles Barromes in Genoa, Wis., by the pastor, Rev. Henry Joseph Wirtz. His wife preceded him in death 48 years ago, and two small sons died early in childhood. Another son, James O'Rieley, gave his life for his country while serving in France in World War I.
Mr. O'Rieley is survived by two sons, William, practicing law in Cedar Rapids, and Thomas on the home farm near McGregor, and two daughters, Ellen, a nurse, and Catherine at home; also two grandchildren, James O'Rieley of Cedar Rapids and Marie Ann O'Rieley of McGregor.
