The St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church at Garber was the setting, July 13, of the uniting in marriage of Miss Sharon Chettinger and Harvey Straus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Straus of Edgewood. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Miss Chettinger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Chettinger of Guttenberg. Mrs. Robert Havelick, cousin of the groom, was bridesmaid, and Layton Chettinger, brother of the bride, served as best man. Lavern Lewin of Garber, Harvey Nelson of Cedar Rapids, uncle of the bride, Verdus Riemer of Elkader, cousin, Loren Schroeder, uncle of the groom, seated the guests.
A reception was held in the church basement for 275 persons, at which, Mrs. Eugene Lewin, aunt of the bride, took care of the guest book. Mrs. Willard Wessel, cousin of the groom, and Mrs. Art Knutson, cousin of the bride, served as table waitresses. Miss Joanne Straus, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Clyde Nelson of Cedar Rapids, took care of the gifts. Mrs. Harvey Nelson, Aunt of the bride, cut the cake, and Mrs. James Zearley and Mrs. Kenny Kuhlman, aunts of the groom, poured the coffee and punch.
The bride is a graduate of Guttenberg Consolidated school and is employed at the Equitable Life Insurance Company at Cedar Rapids. The groom is a graduate of Edgewood high school and is now employed at Collins Radio. The new couple will make their home in Cedar Rapids.
