Miss Lavonne Schmelzer, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed J. Schmelzer of Farmersburg, became the bride of Kenneth Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walter of Luana, Monday, in St. Patrick's Catholic church in Monona. The Rev. Luke Donlon officiated. Mrs. Lester Walter, Luana, sister-in-law of the groom, and Mrs. Dennis Schmelzer, Waterloo, sister-in-law of the bride, were matrons of honor and Florene Walter of Farmersburg and Vir___ Demo, cousins, were bridesmaids. Gene Walter and Carron Walter of Luana were train bearers. The groom was attended by Dennis Schmelzer and Lester Walter. The ushers were Henry Wilke, Jr., and Joseph Schmelzer.
In the evening a shower dance was held in the Farmersburg city hall, after which the new couple left for a three week honeymoon in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and New York. They will be at home on their farm south of Luana after the first of January.
The bride is a graduate of Farmersburg high school and Upper Iowa University and for the past four years has been teaching in Clayton county. The groom is a graduate of the Farmersburg high school and of Iowa State College at Ames. He is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and Alpha Zeta fraternities. For four years he was head herdsman at Ayrlawn Farms at Bethesda, Maryland, and for the past three years he has been on a farm with his parents near Luana.
