Miss Marion Jean Dougherty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. V. Dougherty of Elkader, became the bride of Ensign Gerald J. Fassbinder, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Fassbinder of Elkader, at St. Joseph's church, Friday, July 20. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. E. J. Dougherty of Sacred Heart Parish, Waterloo, Ia., officiated. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken offered the nuptial mass. Gerald Dougherty brother of the bride, Dwain Vorwald, Eddie Sheffert and Thomas Killerlain served as alter boys. Bridesmaid was Miss Darlene Dougherty, sister of the bride, and Richard Fassbinder served his brother as best man.
The bride is a graduate of St. Joseph's high school and Elkader junior college, and for the past year and a half has been employed in the office of the Clayton County Farm Bureau in Elkader. The groom is also a graduate of St. Joseph's high school and the Elkader junior college. Following his graduation he enlisted in the Navy V-5 program. He was called to service Sept. 28, 1943 and received his wings at Chase Field, Corpus Christi, Texas, July 18, 1945.
Mrs. Fassbinder will continue with her work in the Farm Bureau office for the present. Ensign Fassbinder will report to the Naval Air Station at Jacksonville, Fla., to continue his training.
Relatives from out of town who attended the wedding were: Mrs. Frank Meyer and Junior and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin DeSot_ all of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Perns and family, Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Whittle and family, all of Monona; Miss Clara Fassbinder and nephew, Joe O'Hara, all of Marshalltown.
