Funeral services for Lester Martens, 81, former Tipton area farmer, were held at Golden, Colo. Feb. 1 with burial in the Golden cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Mr. Martens died at the San Juan Nursing home, Montrose, Colo., Jan. 27.
The son of Henry and Anna Martens, he was born at Tipton Sept. 23, 1906. He was married to Ruth Sissel at Aledo, Ill. Aug. 24, 1929. She died in September, 1983.
Mr. Martens farmed in the Tipton area until moving to Coal Creek Canyon, Colo. in 1950. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.
He is survived by a son, Marvin, Louisville, Colo.; 2 daughters, Marrie Lee Burke, Montrose, Colo. and Mardina Gregory, Fredonia, Kans.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Norwin, Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Thelma Griffin, Moline, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a grandson, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
